Minsk: Freelance journo, father of five Illya Dabratvor interrogated by Investigative Committee

On Monday morning, journalist Ilya Dabratvor managed to inform his acquaintances that the police were taking him away, TG channel A Country for Living reported.

(UPD) At about 1 pm (local time) Dabratvor has refuted the information of his being detained; according to him, he has been questioned by officers of the Belarusian Investigation Committee and released. He says unknown individuals started a rumour about his detention.

In late March, the administrative case of Illya’s wife Ina Dabratvor was heard in Zavodzki district court of Minsk. The local police drew a protocol upon the woman over the fact that there were portraits of Svyatlana Tsikhanouskaya, Maryia Kalesnikava and Viktar Babaryka as well as the emblem Pahonya (Pursuit) in the windows of their flat. As a result, judge Zhanna Khvaynitskaya found Ina guilty and imposed a fine of 5,800 rubles on her.

Ina Dabratvor was also interrogated on March 21 as part of the investigation under Article 341 of the Criminal Code (‘desecration of buildings and damage to property’). On that day, photographs of political prisoners were hanged on the walls of the stairwell in the block of flats the Dabratvors live in.

In fear of being prosecuted, the woman left Belarus; their five children are staying with the father.
