Katsyaryna Andreyeva labeled person prone to extremism

Journalist Katsyaryna Andreyeva has been placed on the preventive register in Zhodzina prison as a person “prone to extremism and other destructive actions,” Belsat has learnt from her husband Ihar Illyash.

Lithuanian journalists held an action in support of wrongly convicted Belsat journalists Katsyaryna Andreyeva and Darya Chultsova near the Belarusian embassy in Vilnius. February 19, 2021.

The decision was taken at a meeting of the special commission, where she was asked whether she recognized her crime. She said she did not.

Due to the fact that Katsya was placed on the preventive register, there is a brown card on the door of her cell indicating the person prone to extremism in the cell. In the cell there is a special place for her where has to be when the inspector enters. In addition, Katsya will now periodically be called in for preventive conversations.

When she is sent to prison she will retain her “prone to extremism” status.

Katsya’s record card says “zmaharka” which means a rebel.

“Earlier it was reported that there are plans to put Darya Chultsova on a similar register. But we don’t know what stage Dasha’s situation is at, but it’s obvious that this is a coordinated action and the corresponding decision, most likely, was taken above,” says Ihar Illyash.
