At the beginning of September, Belsat journalist Darya Chultsova was released after two years from Lukashenka’s regime prison. She was arrested for reporting on protests. We met Darya in Warsaw to talk about Belarusian people considered enemies of the regime. She also told us how it is to be free in Belarus now.

Belsat TV journalist Darya Chultsova, released on September 3 after two years in a penal colony in Belarus, was honored at the PRIX Europa-2022 festival in Potsdam. She was awarded along with Katsyaryna Andreyeva a year ago, but she was only able to receive her statuette now – two months after leaving Lukashenka’s prison.

The sentence of eight years and three months in prison remained in force, but as Ihar Ilyas emphasizes, the court corrected the prosecution’s formula.

She spent two years in a penal colony with an obligation to work.

Katsyaryna Andreyeva is to stand trial again.

Exactly a year ago, pro-Lukashenka forces grabbed our colleagues Katsyaryna Andreyeva (Bakhvalava) and Darya Chultsova when they performing their professional duties. Since then, they have been held in detention centres, a remand prison and a penal colony.

As it was revealed in August, five Belarusian journalists and media institutions got Free Media Awards for 2021. The press prizes are presented by the Norwegian Fritt Ord Foundation in collaboration with the ZEIT Foundation of Germany.

Imprisoned Belsat TV contributors Katsyaryna Andreyeva and Darya Chultsova have been honoured as European Journalists of the Year 2021 at Europe’s largest annual tri-medial festival and competition PRIX EUROPA.
