The ‘group of citizens from among the private firm Surodzichy’ has been recognised as ‘an extremist group united through Internet resources, including social networks and messengers’, the Belarusian Interior Ministry reports.

On January 10, the Belarusian authorities reported the detention of a 26-year-old resident of Homiel region.

Pavel Batuyeu, an activist from Salihorsk, was also not released after his administrative arrest.

Dissenters may be deported or stripped of their citizenship.

Most of the arrestees in the so called Zeltsar case are being held in Zhodzina prison Nr 8. Parcels containing food and essentials have not been handed over to them for more than 20 days, human rights centre Viasna reports.

On October 18, Vyachaslau Arlouski, the head of the notorious GUBAZiK/GUBOPiK (Main Department for Combatting Organised Crime and Corruption) came up with a proposal to add some clauses to this year’s amendments to the law on citizenship. The amendments came into force in June.
