Hrodna: Political prisoner Volha Mayorava put in punishment cell for unknown reason

According to Belsat.eu own information, Hrodna prison authorities have refused to accept a food parcel for jailed activist Volha Mayorava on Tuesday; she turned out to have been placed in solitary confinement.

The woman has been behind bars since January 4. On that day she was detained as part of the so-called case of Mikalai Autukhovich. Mayorava, a former member of the United Civic Party of Belarus, was taken away from her own house in the village of Nacha (Krupki district). Her place was searched, which resulted in seizing computer equipment by KGB officers.

At first, Volha was kept in the notorious KGB detention centre in Minsk, but later she was transferred to the remand prison in Hrodna. It is still unknown what charges have been brought against Volha Mayorava.

In late April, the Belarusian human rights community recognised Mayorava as a political prisoner. The human rights watchdogs reported that she was suspected of ‘terrorism’. In accordance with the authorities’ version, she administered the social networks of Mikalai Autukhovich, who was earlier accused of committing an act of terrorism.
