Lukashenka declares 2021 the Year of National Unity

Alyaksandr Lukashenka signed decree No. 1 “On declaring 2021 the Year of National Unity.” This is reported by president.gov.by.

The decision was made “in order to consolidate society, unite the Belarusian people on the basis of the ideas of the country’s sovereignty and independence”.

The Council of Ministers, together with the Regional Executive Committee and the Minsk city Executive Committee, were instructed to develop and approve a national plan of measures for holding the Year of National Unity, as well as to ensure coordination of the activities of state bodies and other organizations to implement this plan.

Before declaring 2021 the Year of National Unity, Alyaksandr Lukashenka met with Prosecutor General Andrey Shved. Officials discussed changes in legislation and the persecution of protesters.
